River House, 2024

How very fortunate we are to have this slice of Northern Michigan heaven to slip away to…
Marty’s parents bought this cottage on the Au Sable river when he and his brother were the same ages as their now Grandkids, and that just feels so supremely special to me. I love it so much that these kids will have this magical little place in the middle of the woods to live out their childhoods in.

I want to remember how much the kids have grown, both in size but also in their bravery and ability. I want to remember being greeted by the magenta gladiolas from the garden, and the mystic hovering of a hummingbird I was never ready to capture. I want to remember Jo swimming in the deep of a lake with no fear. I want to remember that Jo’s favorite part was sitting at the big table together as a family, and all of the pretend weddings that happened because it’s such a phase we’ve been in. I want to remember THE GREEN TRUCK JOY, and how the kids needed nothing more than it to have the best time. I want to remember ringing of the bell for dinner, and Lake Michigan showing off for us with it’s color and Petoskey stones. Can’t forget catchin’ craw dads, the ferns or the screen porch chats after the kids go to sleep. I want to remember all the kids being afraid of Gray (the cat) and what a majestic creature he is. Mornings with PANCAKES and cocoa for breakfast. It wouldn’t be a complete trip without a ride on the side by side with the neighbor Betsy! I went along for the ride this time and once I started to realize how many different landscapes I was seeing, I started to document them!

Until next time, xo

(tried to be organized and intentional for a little while, but then gave up because there’s no time)
